effecting change to achieve our vision

Secure, Sustainable Water

Have we done enough to make sure we'll have a secure water supply for the Ballarat region in 20, 30 and 40 years' time?

Committee for Ballarat wants to keep the water agenda alive for our region. We want to work towards an innovative approach to water sustainability and leave a proud legacy for future generations.

To do this we want to bring together stakeholders to prepare for long-term water security.

Specifically, we want to capitalise on the once-only opportunity to harvest and re-use stormwater in the Ballarat West Growth Zone and potentially lay the foundation for future use of fit-for-purpose recycled water in the precinct.

Key issues
The Master Plan for the Ballarat West Growth Zone (including the Employment Zone) is almost complete and Ballarat's population is projected to grow at an above-average rate over the next 20 years.

More people means we need more water. Can we afford to rely only on rainfall and bringing in a (costly) supply of potable water from outside the region via the Superpipe?

The timing is now critical - we need to act now so we don't miss this window of opportunity.
