Secure, Sustainable Water

Key Issues
Climatic changes have resulted in dramatic reductions in rainfall leading to dwindling storage levels and the region faces a water supply crisis.

The crisis has been temporarily averted as a result of the commissioning of the Goldfields Superpipe, other augmentations to the supply and changes to patterns of use.

Key Objectives
To develop strategies focused on long-term goals to ensure (genuinely) sustainable are secured for the region.

To maintain the urgency of the water agenda.

To ensure that, in the considerations of wider issues affecting water supplies across the State, the views of Ballarat and its region are recognised and heard and there are effective responses.

To work with agencies to consolidate policy direction of water capture; to work with the community to develop sustainable infrastructure;  and to work with the region’s businesses to develop sustainable water use and management strategies and reduce or eliminate profligate water management.

Introduction of recycled water into the potable system for drinking and substitution of potable water for non-drinking use

Capture, collection and storage of stormwater

Reuse of grey water
