UGL Rail, a division of UGL, is Australia’s largest provider of rolling-stock solutions to the passenger and freight rail sectors. UGL Rail’s history dates back more than a century and today the business has more than 3,100 staff supplying, maintaining and managing rail technology every day.

Built in 1917 and still at the original site at 600 Creswick Road, the UGL Rail Ballarat Workshop currently employs 170 people with a great combination of experienced staff - some with nearly 40 years of experience.

The business offers extensive train overhaul, refurbishment and fit out capabilities as well as general equipment overhaul, manufacturing and engineering services. It has a heavy engineering capability providing services to rail and non-rail customers.

Ballarat Workshop is currently fitting out a total of 114 X’Trapolis passenger trains for MTM's Melbourne suburban network, due for completion in early 2012.

Ballarat Workshop supports local businesses and jobs, and many community initiatives including the local Christmas Food Drive and the Community Food Bus.
