The Corangamite Catchment Management Authority (CMA) was established in 1997 by the Victorian Government to ensure the protection and sustainable development of land, vegetation and water resources within a boundary stretching from Geelong to Ballarat and along the coast to Peterborough.

About 350,000 people live in the catchment which has a total area of 13,340 square kilometres. It includes all or part of the municipalities of Cities of Ballarat and Greater Geelong, the Borough of Queenscliffe, the Shires of Moorabool, SurfCoast, Corangamite, Golden Plains, Colac Otway and Moyne.
