Following the release of the State Budget this week, the Premier the Hon Dr Denis Napthine today addressed Committee for Ballarat members at a breakfast held at Craig’s Royal Hotel. If you were unable to attend and would like to view the Premier's PowerPoint presentation ... click here
In March this year, Committee launched its Advancing Ballarat & Western Region, Preparing for Growth document advocating for major projects and initiatives that will stimulate our region’s local economy and grow jobs.
MAJOR INFRASTRUCTURE INVESTMENT AND JOBS
In the budget the Coalition Government has committed around $27 billion for State shaping infrastructure. Central to the Government's economic growth agenda is the delivery of an estimated operating surplus of $1.3 billion in 2014-15, rising to $3.3 billion by 2017-18.
The economy is expected to grow in this period from 2.5% to 2.75% with net debt forecast to decline from 6.3% of Gross State Product (GSP) to 4.5%.
The building of the $8-$10 billion Western Section of the East West Link will provide a much needed alternate route to the West Gate Bridge benefiting commuters from Geelong, Ballarat and Melbourne’s West and which will improve productivity and connectivity for business and residents in our region.
Committee welcomes these State Budget funding announcements with $1.2 bilion being allocated to build a stronger and better regional Victoria.
Ballarat’s voice is being heard, with these announcements addressing the need for key infrastructure and jobs to keep pace with projected population growth in our region.
We acknowledge the work of our task team members, in particular the BWGZ and FastTrack teams, for their continued work in driving Committee’s agenda forward.
