Welcome to 2020 - A year of Possibilities

23 Jan 2020

Happy new year and on behalf of Committee for Ballarat, we wish you a cracking 2020.

So very sadly, the start of the year has been catastrophic for so many communities and I am sure we have all felt the shock of the destruction caused by the fires over the past few weeks. With so many communities in such need, now is the time for great leadership and if there is anything to be gained from these fires, it’s our capacity to come together and to get stuff done, when others are in need.

What the past few weeks has shown is possibility and this is a theme for Committee in 2020.

What is possible?
What is possible for our city and region if we embrace sustainability as a key feature of our Liveability?
What is possible for connectivity if we seize this moment to build the rail infrastructure for the next generation and open up all of Victoria to fast, reliable and frequent train services?
What is possible when we invest in the development of our leaders to build the capacity and the resilience of our communities?
What is possible when we collaborate on the key health issues and work towards solutions that enable people to thrive?
And what is possible when we can understand the skills we will need to adapt to the challenges of the new decade.

Growth in our region is inevitable and Committee will continue to work with its members, business, government and the community to help shape our future and ensure the region, its towns and the city, continues to be a desirable place to live, do business in and visit.

To kick us off in 2020 we invite you to join us for two special member events:

Thursday 6 February: Positioning Ballarat as a University Town, Learnings from Dundee, Scotland with Prof Sir Peter Downes

Monday 10 February: Regional Rail – Stronger Together

We look forward to working with you in 2020 – a year of possibilities!
